Responsibilities included membership in the Campus Advisory Council and the Austin Council of PTAs, running Executive Board and General Membership Meetings, selecting and overseeing approximately thirty committees and their chairs, and fundraising. I also retained responsibility for writing the Austin High School electronic newsletter. In my 07-08 term, we rewrote our By-laws, and I served as Chairman for two committees in addition to serving as the president.
Appointed position of the Board of Directors. Maintain governing documents, advise and train the board of directors and general membership on proper parliamentary procedure, oversee nominations and elections.
With my fellow members, we advise the principal of Austin High School on matters that affect our school. State law requires the formation of CACs which are committees of parents, students, business, and community representatives, teachers, the principal, and other campus staff. Specific functions of CACs include providing review and comment on educational programs, campus performance, the Campus Improvement Plan, staff development plans, and campus budget. The mission of CACs is to promote excellence in education for all students through broad-based representation.
Communicate with parents and act as liaison between parents and club and governing organizations, make tournament and travel arrangements, register players, maintain up-to-date medical release forms and player cards, website maintenance, and creation and maintenance of player profiles.
The Stephen F. Austin Society board conducts an annual fund raising event and grants all receipts to support extracurricular excellence for athletics and UIL activities at Austin High School.
Responsible for collecting news items, editing, and writing a weekly electronic newsletter for and about anything having to do with Austin High School or its students or staff (distribution is to approximately 1300 households), work with the webmaster to maintain the PTSA website.
